The Almería City Council has decided to postpone the dual carriageway project for the old N-344, connecting Almería Airport with the El Toyo urbanization. The motion presented by the Socialist municipal group was rejected by a majority in the ordinary July plenary session.
The councilor responsible for Urban Planning, Eloísa Cabrera, explained that while the need for the infrastructure is shared, it must be programmed within a strategic vision and aligned with economic priorities. The council already has studies and a construction project for the duplication of this section.
The updated budget for the execution of the works exceeds 20 million euros, a figure that rises to approximately 25 million when including the necessary expropriations. Cabrera pointed out that an investment of this magnitude requires responsible programming and prioritization over other strategic infrastructures, recalling the municipal effort of over 30 million euros for the urban integration of the High-Speed Rail.
The new General Urban Planning Plan (PGOM) is considered the ideal instrument for incorporating this type of structuring infrastructure, as it will order Almería's future growth and assess the economic viability of major projects. Citizen participation in its development was encouraged.
In the same session, a motion by Vox regarding the desafectation of spaces from public port domain was rejected, arguing its legal and economic inviability, and its incompatibility with the port-city integration model.
