María, with 816 girls, and Manuel, with 1,062 boys, lead the lists of the most frequent names in Andalucía for the year 2025. María has held the top position since 2009, while Manuel has led since 2016.
As a notable novelty, the name Oussaid has become the most frequent among boys in the province of Almería. This Arabic-origin name, popular in North African countries and present in Europe due to migration, reflects the impact of immigration in the area.
Among girls, the most used names, besides María, were Sofía, Lucía, and Carmen, which collectively accounted for 9.2% of births. These same names topped the list in 2024, although with an exchange in the positions of Sofía and Lucía.
Regarding boys' names, Manuel, Alejandro, Hugo, and Pablo were the most chosen, accounting for 9.6% of the total. This order remains the same as the previous year.
The girl's name that gained the most positions in the top 100 ranking was Amara, moving from 112th to 60th. For boys, Joel experienced the biggest rise, climbing from 96th to 63rd place.
Conversely, Natalia was the girl's name with the largest drop in ranking, falling from 71st to 93rd. For boys, Joaquín descended from 70th to 94th.
Breaking down by province, María was the most common girl's name in all Andalusian provinces, except for Málaga (where Sofía was preferred) and Sevilla (Carmen). Manuel led in most provinces, with the exceptions of Almería (Oussaid), Granada (Alejandro), and Jaén (Hugo).
The tradition of inheriting a parent's name is in decline, affecting 9.4% of newborns. 5.1% of girls inherited their mother's name, while 13.4% of boys inherited their father's name.
Córdoba recorded the highest frequency of name inheritance (12.1%), exceeding the Andalusian average. Málaga showed the lowest percentage at 6.5%.
Within the top 100 most frequent names, Cristina is the girl's name with the highest maternal inheritance percentage (43.1%), and Francisco Javier is the boy's name with the highest paternal inheritance (71.2%).
In specific municipalities, Lucía was the most frequent girl's name in Hinojosa del Duque (Córdoba) with 17.9%, and Paula in Fernán-Núñez (Córdoba) with 14.3%. For boys, Manuel stood out in Benacazón (Sevilla) with 22.7%, and Mario in Puerto Serrano (Cádiz) with 14.7%.
