With nearly a quarter-century dedicated to the sidelines, Miguel Compán has established himself as a significant figure in Almería's football scene. At 49 years old, and after stints at clubs such as Oriente, Pavía, Adra, Comarca del Mármol, and the EDA School, Compán embarks on a new challenge after signing with CD Oriente.
Compán, who began his career at a young age, was always more drawn to the technical and tactical aspects of the game than to playing it. His time at Almería, however, left a bittersweet mark. Despite receiving a contract renewal offer, the terms changed drastically within hours, leading to his departure in tears and a feeling of being undervalued.
“"I was at Almería and left in tears. They offered me a renewal, but the contract conditions changed in just a few hours and I didn't feel valued."
On the more positive side of his career, Compán highlights winning the Andalusian championship with the club's youth team. An achievement he recalls with emotion, especially due to the psychological and sporting comeback it represented: "At halftime, they were attacking us from all sides, we held on, and I used psychology with the boys to tell them we were doing very well. We won almost against all odds."
With a long-term work philosophy, Compán has typically stayed more than two seasons at clubs, aiming to consolidate projects. Only Comarca del Mármol broke this pattern, where he achieved promotion to Primera Andaluza and secured permanence, although the ambition to grow was hampered by the club's financial limitations.
In a recent appearance on the podcast 'Pegados a la cal', Compán also shared reflections on the role of referees, the dedication of footballers, and the projects he still has ahead in the world of sports.
“"When sport bothers me, I will step aside"
