The monarch's visit to the Viator base aims to closely observe the advancements and modernization of the Spanish Army. The exhibition will take place at the ‘Álvarez de Sotomayor’ Maneuver and Firing Range, as part of a campaign that began on April 7 and will conclude this Friday.
This experimentation campaign allows the Army to test various capabilities, emphasizing the use of new technologies to adapt to current and future battlefields. More than thirty national companies are collaborating in this edition, providing selected systems and technologies that facilitate the identification of viable solutions, guide future developments, and accelerate the response to military needs.
The event has been conceived as a crucial experimentation platform for the transformation of the Spanish Army. It involves military units, companies, technology centers, and universities, creating a realistic environment to evaluate the utility, integration, and maturity of new capabilities relevant to the future force.
The Spanish Army's transformation process is structured into three phases – conceptual, experimentation, and implementation – with a timeline extending to 2035. This year marks the milestone of the Possible Force, which already incorporates relevant programs and capabilities. By 2030, the goal is to achieve the Advanced Force, a model closer to the final version, equipped with state-of-the-art technologies and modernized capabilities.
King Felipe VI previously visited Viator in May 2021, where he attended a demonstration by the Experimental Combat Group and learned about other key programs, such as the 8x8 wheeled combat vehicle.
