The blaze started around 8:15 AM in the property, located on Avenida de la Cruz in the provincial capital. Several residents alerted the 112 emergency services about the large column of smoke visible for kilometers. Firefighters, National and Local Police, and medical services were dispatched to the scene.
The building, which is in a state of disrepair, is known in the Los Ángeles neighborhood for serving as a shelter for homeless individuals who use it to spend the night. Emergency services confirmed that the flames were quickly brought under control and that no one was inside at the time of the incident, thus no injuries occurred.
The fire affected part of the building's facade, which is designated Level 3 protection in the General Urban Planning Plan's (PGOU) Catalog of Protected Buildings due to its historical and heritage value. However, the interior remained undamaged as most of the building is boarded up.
