The works for the second phase of railway integration in Almería reveal a unique element: a large Indalo figure that will mark the emergence of trains from the underground trench to the track area of the new station. This distinctive feature, promoted by the mixed technical commission, aims to differentiate the Almerian infrastructure from other urban railway underpasses.
This initiative, a “whim” of the mixed technical commission, which includes Adif Alta Velocidad, the Regional Ministry of Public Works, Territorial Planning and Housing, and the city council, highlights the local identity of the project. Although the figure will not be visible from inside the trains, its presence will be notable from the elevated pedestrian walkway and nearby buildings, as well as through the use of drones.
A Neolithic symbol to welcome 21st-century trains.
The Indalo, discovered in the Cueva de los Letreros and now an iconic provincial symbol, will preside over the exit ramp of the railway underpass tunnel near Gloria Fuertes Park. This long-awaited infrastructure will eliminate the railway barriers that divide the city, connecting neighborhoods such as El Puche, Los Molinos, El Tagarete, La Goleta, and Ciudad Jardín.
The project includes the creation of a large boulevard with landscaped areas, children's playgrounds, and bike lanes on the reclaimed land. The 1.9-kilometer high-speed tunnel is already completed, awaiting only the installation of tracks, a milestone recently highlighted by the Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Óscar Puente. The total investment in this new railway infrastructure exceeds 187 million euros.
