The southern area of Vega de Acá in Almería hosted the groundbreaking ceremony for a new development of 92 protected housing units. Driven by the Municipal Company Almería XXI, the project involves an investment of 12.3 million euros, with the homes anticipated to be ready by January 2028.
The development will feature 92 garage spaces and 19 storage rooms, spread across two buildings. One building will contain 39 units, and the other 53, offering options with two, three, and four bedrooms. Additionally, spaces will be allocated for commercial premises and 1,100 square meters for communal garden areas with a swimming pool.
These homes are designed with a focus on quality, spaciousness, and sustainability, incorporating generous terraces, natural ventilation and lighting, and energy-efficient solutions such as photovoltaic panels, aerothermal systems, and pre-installation for electric vehicles.
“"Access to decent housing is not a privilege, it is a fundamental right."
A notary-supervised lottery is planned for June to organize the applicant registry. The project has been awarded to the consortium Lirola Ingeniería y Obras and Soluciona Obras y Servicios, with design by Lotoarq.
The mayoress emphasized the importance of public housing policies in facilitating access to homes, particularly for young people and families facing difficulties, describing the promotion of protected housing as "building opportunities for equality".
This development marks the twenty-fourth project by the municipal company and the seventh in Vega de Acá. The City Council has completed 19 developments and delivered 1,116 homes to date, with 203 more units currently under construction and a goal to double the initial commitment of over 300 public housing units.
We still have many homes to build and many dreams to fulfill.
Architect José Manuel López, one of the project designers, highlighted the necessity of promoting public housing and praised the track record of Almería XXI. He expressed his hope that other municipalities in the province will follow Almería's example.
