This initiative, promoted by the Almería City Council, the Provincial Council, and the University of Almería, has become an essential event in the spring cultural program. The agenda will include the participation of a Nobel Prize in Physics, along with four other high-level speakers, who will offer an informative approach to cosmic science.
The conferences will feature a daily lecture at the Teatro Apolo, from May 25 to 29, starting at 8:00 PM. Participants include astrophysicist and Nobel Laureate Brian Schmidt, European Space Agency astrophysicist Carole Mundell, CSIC astrophysicist José M. Vílchez, IAC astrophysicist John E. Beckman, and Planetary Defense Office aeronautical engineer Juan Luis Cano.
In addition to the talks, a portable planetarium exhibition from Serón will be set up in the Patio de Luces of the Provincial Council, available from May 25 to 28. On Saturday, May 30, attendees can enjoy an astronomical observation night at the headquarters of the Orión Association. All activities are free of charge until full capacity is reached.
“"Astronomy has always fascinated humanity. Without going any further, we must remember how we all followed Artemis II, the expedition to the far side of the moon last April; or how anticipation is growing for the solar eclipse that will occur on August 12, the first of three in just one year."
The city's culture department highlighted the prestige and reputation of these conferences, which are celebrating their 14th year and have become a scientific benchmark, positioning Almería as a point of interest for science every spring. For her part, the vice president and culture deputy of the Provincial Council emphasized the importance of this event as a scientific dissemination space open to all citizens.
The vice-rector for Scientific Policy at the University of Almería expressed pride in the presentation of these conferences, underscoring the event's relevance for the city due to the exceptional opportunity to host leading scientific figures. It was also mentioned that Nobel Laureate Brian Schmidt will give a lecture and have lunch with the university community, and Carole Mundell will participate in a breakfast with young researchers.
