The play, set in 1950s Brooklyn, tells the story of Eddie Carbone, a longshoreman of Italian descent, his wife Beatrice, and her young niece Catherine. The apparent family harmony is threatened by the arrival of Marco and Rodolfo, two immigrants seeking a new life in the United States.
The budding romance between Catherine and Rodolfo triggers in Eddie a distrust that evolves into an obsession marked by jealousy and possession. As tension mounts, Eddie begins to question the young immigrant's intentions, pitting him against his family and a community governed by codes of loyalty and silence.
The conflict culminates in a tragedy exploring themes of honor, justice, betrayal, and the difficulty of controlling one's desires.
