The event, organized by the Almería City Council and the Association for the Bicentennial of Los Coloraos, will feature approximately 50 actors and extras. This year's main novelty is the route, which will depart from Puerta Purchena and proceed along the newly renovated Paseo de Almería, utilizing this updated urban space as the main stage for the performance.
The historical procession will follow a detailed itinerary through various city streets, including Lachambre, Trajano, Eduardo Pérez, Cubo, Plaza Bendicho, Los Olmos, Plaza Jesús Cautivo de Medinaceli, Velázquez, General Castaños, Plaza Granero, La Reina, José María Acosta, Juez, Plaza Lita Baró, Plaza de la Administración Vieja, Mariana, and Jovellanos, concluding at the Plaza de la Constitución.
The Plaza Vieja has been chosen as the final setting for the reenactment, a location of particular symbolic significance this year, following the recent deposition of the remains of 'Los Coloraos' in this area, reinforcing it as a site of memory and tribute.
This initiative aims to disseminate, in a rigorous and engaging manner, the events that occurred in August 1824, when a group of liberals led an uprising against the absolutism of Fernando VII. 'Los Coloraos', as they are popularly known, became a symbol of the defense of freedom and constitutional ideals in the city's history.
The reenactment, part of the program for the Almería Fair and Festivals in honor of the Virgen del Mar, will commence at 11:00 AM. Eloísa Cabrera, Councilor for Urban Planning, Housing, and Major Festivals, highlighted the event's importance to the city's identity and thanked the association for keeping this tradition alive.
Carmen Ravassa Lao, president of the Association for the Bicentennial of Los Coloraos, encouraged citizens to participate, even suggesting period attire, to make the day a true popular celebration and honor those who defended freedom and democracy.
Manuel Pérez Sola, the event's director, emphasized the initiative's educational purpose, conceived as both a tribute and a fun, attractive way to bring history closer to the public.
This event will serve as a prelude to the institutional homage to the Martyrs of Freedom, scheduled for August 24th, featuring a speech by Fátima Pérez, dean of the University of Almería.
