For a few hours, Almería has traveled back in time to the turbulent summer of 1824. The city's streets witnessed the return of red coats and period uniforms, reliving the steps of Los Coloraos more than two centuries later.
Around fifty actors and extras brought to life those liberals who arrived in Almería intending to defy the absolutism of Fernando VII and restore the Constitution of 1812. The city center thus became a grand open-air stage.
The procession departed at 11:00 AM from Puerta Purchena, traversing the Paseo and various corners of the historic center to reach the Plaza Vieja. There, the sentencing and execution of the Martyrs of Liberty were recreated, a particularly symbolic conclusion this year following the deposition of their remains in this same space last October.
This reenactment, part of the Almería Fair program, aims to keep alive a history linked to the city's memory more than 200 years later.
