The province of Almería is consolidating its position as a national leader in fruit and vegetable transport, with three of its companies ranking among the top ten in the country by business volume in 2024.

According to a report by the specialized magazine Alimarket, the Almerian companies J. Carrión, Isabel Alonso, and J. Cano have successfully positioned themselves within the elite group of the ten largest fruit and vegetable transport companies in Spain. This achievement underscores Almería's significance in the logistics network supplying European markets.
While Primafrio from Murcia leads the sector with a turnover of 430 million euros and a fleet of 3,000 vehicles, J. Carrión, based in Huércal de Almería, holds the second position. This company boasts 14 logistics centers and a workforce of 2,500 employees, generating revenues of 163 million euros. The third spot is taken by the Transonuba group from Huelva, with 105 million euros in revenue, notable for its recent Huelva-Tangier maritime line and 75% of its income from the agri-food sector.
The sectoral ranking continues with Madrid's Grupo Logista (103 million) and Ontime (95 million), also based in Madrid. The other two Almerian companies in the top ten are Isabel Alonso, from Antas, with 91 million euros, and J. Cano, also from Antas, which invoiced 90.2 million euros and operates with over 400 tractor units. Notably, J. Cano is the Andalusian transport company with the highest Ebitda (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization).
The list is completed by Murcia's Fuentes (84 million), Caliche from Murcia (81 million), Penedés e Hijos from Albacete (72 million), and Trota from Lleida (71 million). Almería province, alongside Murcia, thus emerges as a powerhouse in fruit and vegetable logistics, with over a thousand trucks departing daily for Europe. In addition to those mentioned, other Almerian companies such as El Junza, Pérez Casquet, Belzunces, Fríoejido, and Cabrera also contribute to this leadership.
Almería's importance in this sector is also reflected in its extensive truck fleet and large number of professional drivers. According to data from the State Public Employment Service (SEPE), the province has 13,700 freight drivers, both self-employed and employed, primarily dedicated to fruit and vegetable transport, as well as minerals like gypsum and natural stone.
