The University of Almería will host the 14th Astronomical Conference, an event bringing together prominent figures from the international scientific community. From May 25th to 30th, the city will welcome experts who will share their knowledge about the cosmos and space exploration.
Among the confirmed speakers is Brian Schmidt, a recipient of the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2011. Schmidt will deliver a lecture titled 'Understanding the Accelerated Expansion of the Universe' on the university campus, followed by a lunch-dialogue for pre-registered attendees.
Another distinguished guest will be Carole Mundell, Chief Scientist at the European Space Agency (ESA). The British astrophysicist will participate in a 'Science Café' event titled 'Discovering the Universe from the European Space Agency', in collaboration with the Descubre Foundation.
These conferences, organized by various vice-rectorates and units of the University of Almería, aim to promote scientific outreach. In addition to Schmidt and Mundell, the program includes contributions from other renowned scientists such as CSIC astrophysicist José M. Vílchez, who will discuss 'The Chemistry of Galaxies', and UAL's Doctor Honoris Causa, John E. Beckman, who will lecture on 'Solar Eclipses'.
