The Minister of the Presidency, Antonio Sanz, announced that the first "window of opportunity" has opened to combat the fire affecting 6,600 hectares. Until now, efforts had focused on containing the flames' advance and protecting homes.
Sanz explained from the Advanced Command Post that the strategy change is possible due to favorable weather conditions this Saturday, with winds of only 2 kilometers per hour and relative humidity near 50%, a significant difference from Friday's gusts.
During the night, conditions were used to open defense lines and consolidate the perimeter through technical fire maneuvers, a tool that prevented flames from reaching the A-7 and avoided new direct threats to inhabited areas.
The operation involves over 500 personnel from Plan Infoca, the UME, BRIF, provincial firefighters, Guardia Civil, and Civil Protection. Additionally, 22 aircraft are on standby for intervention.
Despite the improvement, Sanz emphasizes maximum caution. The fire remains active, having already affected 6,600 hectares. The current objective is to consolidate the overnight work and move towards stabilizing the fire, which has caused twelve fatalities and forced hundreds of people to leave their homes.
