The city of Almería is progressing with railway integration through the construction of a new pedestrian and cycle overpass, which replaces the old Renfe bridge demolished in 2023.

The new pedestrian and cycle overpass in Almería, part of the second phase of the railway integration project, is progressing significantly next to Gloria Fuertes park. This development is becoming one of the most visible actions of the track tunneling and the arrival of High-Speed Rail to the city.
The structure replaces the old Renfe overpass, which was demolished in December 2023. Its removal has allowed for the opening of a new connecting street between the Manuel Fraga roundabout and Sierra Alhamilla avenue, which will be redeveloped to integrate the surrounding neighborhoods. The new elevated bridge is essential for maintaining permeability between both sides of the now-buried train tracks.
After analyzing various technical alternatives, the chosen option is this modern elevated crossing connecting Elio Antonio de Nebrija street with the Sierra Alhamilla road. The overpass, featuring an improved design compared to the previous one, will be five meters wide with a mixed pavement for safe shared use by pedestrians and cyclists.
This functional duality aligns with urban planning to include a dedicated bike lane on Elio Antonio de Nebrija street, addressing issues with the current narrow sidewalk and cleanly linking with the planned cycling infrastructure for Sierra Alhamilla avenue.
To ensure full universal accessibility, access ramps of 23 and 29 meters will be installed at both ends, along with stairs. Safety is enhanced by an adapted interior railing for people with reduced mobility and a two-and-a-half-meter-high anti-vandalism perimeter enclosure, designed to prevent objects from being thrown onto the tracks.
