The Local Government Board has approved the tender for a contract worth 223,800 euros, including VAT, which will span three years with a possible extension. This agreement, driven by the Department of Public Works, Maintenance, Accessibility, and Blue Economy, seeks to anticipate and plan beach management to ensure that services and infrastructure meet the desired standards.
Councilwoman Sacramento Sánchez explained that the initiative responds to the need for proactive and continuous planning, extending beyond summer preparations. The current plan, valid until September 2027, will be replaced by the new 2028-2031 period, covering both directly managed municipal services and those operated by third parties.
The contract's provisions include drafting the technical documentation for the new plan, monitoring the current plan, and providing consultancy for obtaining quality certifications and awards. It will also be responsible for the inspection, surveillance, and monitoring of elements such as walkways, restroom modules, shaded areas, signage, access points, railings, buoys, establishment maintenance, and general upkeep.
Sánchez highlighted that this technical tool will enable the verification of planned objectives, the identification of issues, and continuous evaluation of services. The goal is to maintain and improve quality, accessibility, and safety standards, while also facilitating beach enjoyment for individuals with reduced mobility.
The diverse Almería coastline, ranging from urban areas to the Cabo de Gata-Níjar Natural Park, requires rigorous and specialized management. The contract will also strengthen coordination among various municipal services and administrations to ensure ongoing improvements in facilities, cleanliness, maintenance, and accessibility.
