This achievement strengthens Almería's position as one of the most prominent coastal destinations in Andalucía, thanks to the recovery of three distinctions in Cuevas del Almanzora, Mojácar, and Vera. The improvement in water quality and services has been key to this recognition.
Nationally, Spain maintains its global leadership in Blue Flags, with a total of 677 awarded beaches in 2026, 35 more than the previous year. Of the 713 applications submitted, 95% obtained the distinction, underscoring the commitment to excellence on the Spanish coast.
The beaches recovering the Blue Flag in Almería are El Playazo-Villaricos in Cuevas del Almanzora, Piedra Villazar in Mojácar, and Las Marinas-Bolaga in Vera. This progress demonstrates the efforts of municipalities to meet the demanding criteria of the program.
In addition to the beaches, the province has also been recognized for the quality of its nautical facilities. Three Almerian marinas have been awarded the Blue Flag in 2026: the port of Adra, San José in Níjar, and Roquetas de Mar, which regains its distinction.
“"When no one was talking about sustainability or environmental certifications, when the effects of climate change were not so visible and evident, ADEAC already understood the importance of preserving our planet so that those of us here today can enjoy it, and so that we can pass it on to those who will come tomorrow."
The Blue Flag program, celebrating its 40th edition, is present in 51 countries and over 5,000 locations. Spain accounts for 15% of the beaches with this award worldwide, consolidating its position as a leader in coastal quality.
