The plenary session of the Gójar Town Council has given the green light to the Ordinance Regulating Street Cleaning, Waste Management, Plot Conservation, and Public Space Maintenance. This measure seeks to establish a clear framework for moving towards a cleaner, safer, and healthier municipality, addressing aspects that, although already regulated, are now presented in an organized manner and with a defined sanctioning system.
“"This ordinance is born with a clear objective: to improve the quality of life of our neighbors, taking care of our environment and strengthening coexistence."
The mayor of Gójar, Joaquín Prieto, has emphasized that the initiative not only focuses on imposing sanctions but also on prevention and the involvement of all citizens. According to Prieto, maintaining the municipality in optimal conditions is a shared responsibility between the local administration and the residents themselves.
The new regulation covers fundamental aspects of daily life, such as street cleaning, plot maintenance, waste management, proper use of public space, and the protection of urban furniture. A key point is the obligation of property owners to keep their plots clean, cleared, and free of waste or dry vegetation, in order to prevent fires, pests, and health problems, especially during high-temperature periods. In case of non-compliance, the Town Council may act subsidiarily and pass on the costs to the owners.
The ordinance also highlights the importance of proper waste management, requiring adequate separation, respect for deposit schedules (from 8:00 PM), and correct use of municipal services, such as the clean point and bulky waste collection. Uncivil behaviors such as littering or throwing cigarette butts, abandoning furniture outside established days, unauthorized graffiti, or damaging urban furniture are explicitly prohibited. Furthermore, the use of public space for activities, events, or advertising installation is regulated, always ensuring the cleanliness and good condition of the areas used.
The norm includes mechanisms for the removal of abandoned vehicles and allows the Town Council to intervene urgently in the face of public health risks, such as the proliferation of pests or the accumulation of waste. To ensure compliance with these provisions, the ordinance establishes a sanctioning regime with minor, serious, and very serious infractions, with fines ranging from 750 to 3,000 euros. Simultaneously, the Town Council will promote informative and educational campaigns to foster awareness and citizen collaboration.
