This intervention provides the square with 470 square meters of shade, making the area more pleasant for residents and visitors. The project was made possible by a grant from the Ministry of Employment, Business and Self-Employment of the Junta de Andalucía, as part of its program for the improvement and modernization of urban commercial spaces.
“"Shade will be provided, and thermal comfort conditions will be improved in a highly frequented urban environment, fostering the revitalization of public space during the summer season."
The mayor of Maracena, Carlos Porcel, highlighted that this initiative is intended to optimize the daily lives of citizens, making their stay more enjoyable in a place that serves as a regular meeting point. Sor María Luisa Square is also a crucial hub for the local economy, housing 15 establishments, of which 12 are active, and six are traditional street-level businesses.
Therefore, the new canopy not only benefits those who enjoy the square but also helps to make the commercial environment more attractive, allowing citizens to use the space even on the hottest days and thus promoting the dynamism of local commerce.
