The tremor, described as a "lash" lasting only a few seconds, occurred shortly before 4 PM. The National Geographic Institute (ING) located the epicenter in Armilla, a municipality adjacent to the capital, and reported a magnitude of 3.6. Meanwhile, Civil Protection provisionally indicated a magnitude of 4.4.
The seismic movement was perceived not only in Granada city but also in towns within the Metropolitan Area such as Armilla, Ogíjares, Cenes de la Vega, Monachil, La Zubia, and Maracena. Social media quickly filled with user testimonials sharing their experiences. Following the main tremor, a 1.7 magnitude aftershock was recorded, also in Armilla.
The ING specified that the earthquake occurred at a very shallow depth, "zero kilometers." The 112 emergency service received 44 calls and, at present, has no record of significant damage. The day also included other seismic events of lesser intensity: one in Loja in the morning (1.6 magnitude) and another in Alhendín in the afternoon (2.0 magnitude).
This event adds to a series of tremors recorded in the province of Granada during July, including more considerable earthquakes in Montillana and Gorafe.
