A worker from the Peligros City Council suffered injuries this Friday while working on the repair of an underground container. The incident occurred as the worker attempted to fix a malfunction in a bin exclusively designated for solid urban waste, which had been improperly filled with debris from a construction site.
The town's mayor, Roberto García, confirmed the event and stated that the full extent and consequences of the incident are still being assessed. García took the opportunity to criticize the "incivility" of those who dump such materials in unauthorized containers, reminding that "the consequences of an uncivil act can be much more serious than we imagine".
The mayor highlighted the work of municipal employees who must remove, clean, or repair these bins. He emphasized that various alternatives exist for proper waste disposal, such as the "recogida de enseres" (collection of bulky items) and the "Punto Limpio" (civic amenity site), and appealed for "respect" towards public spaces and the people who work to maintain them.
“"Let's hope it all turns out to be a scare, although right now we cannot know for sure. To those who continue to act like this, I only ask one thing: think before you throw because the consequences of an uncivil gesture can be much more serious than we imagine."
This incident is reminiscent of a similar event that occurred last Wednesday in Huétor Vega, where the driver of a waste collection truck had to be hospitalized after his truck filled with smoke when a garbage container, containing smoldering barbecue remains, was tipped into it.
