The Granada town of Güéjar Sierra is preparing to welcome the best enduro MTB specialists for the Spanish Cup, to be held on September 20th. This event, which will also host the Andalusian Enduro MTB Championship, positions the municipality as a benchmark for national mountain biking.
Mayor José Robles highlighted the event's importance, coming shortly after La Vuelta a España passed through the area, reinforcing Güéjar Sierra's role as a venue for major cycling events. The race, initially planned for May, had to be postponed due to damage caused by winter storms to infrastructure and trails. The City Council's recovery efforts have made the competition possible.
Mikel García, event director and head of the club Travel Bike Güéjar Sierra Adventure CD, described the course as "spectacular and demanding," placing it among the toughest on the national calendar. Participants will tackle 42 kilometers with an accumulated elevation gain of 1,915 meters, reaching altitudes close to 1,900 meters near the Collado de la Gitana. The route will feature four timed special stages.
Due to damage in the Hazallanas and La Fabriquilla area, one of the most technical descents, the Los Viajeros Románticos section, has been removed. To cross the Genil valley, a private track generously provided by local residents will be used, and the bridge at the Molino del Coto has been rebuilt by the City Council, preserving the competition's essence.
The competition will offer two categories: muscle bike and e-bike. In the e-bike category, riders must carefully manage their battery's autonomy to complete the course. Registrations are open until September 13th at 11:30 PM via the website of the Andalusian Cycling Federation.
Rafael Castro, Councilor for Sports and Youth, stated that "some of the best national specialists" are expected to participate, which will generate a significant tourism and economic impact for the municipality. The program begins on Saturday, September 19th, with bib collection, live music, and entertainment activities.
