The Cúllar Vega City Council has reiterated its demand for the construction of a safe access for pedestrians and cyclists to the Metro station in La Gloria, located in Las Gabias. This request, which the council has been making "for months" through letters and meetings, aims to facilitate the connection of the urban center with the public transport infrastructure.
The municipal proposal involves building a footbridge that would run parallel to the GR3304 road, next to the bridge crossing the Dílar River. The objective is to directly connect the urban area with the Metro station, situated approximately 500 meters away.
According to the mayor of Cúllar Vega, Jorge Sánchez, the current sidewalk and bike lane end at the riverbed. This forces pedestrians and cyclists to perform "very dangerous" maneuvers, either by cycling on the road's shoulder or crossing the GR3304 twice, a road with considerable vehicular traffic.
For this reason, the City Council urges the Junta de Andalucía and the Provincial Council of Granada to reach an agreement to execute this infrastructure, thereby ensuring safe access to the Metro for residents who travel by bicycle or on foot.
This demand is part of a broader strategy by the Consistory to optimize mobility in the municipality. Among other requests, an increase in the frequencies of the 151 bus line and the implementation of a shuttle system connecting to the Metro are being sought.
Additionally, the City Council has submitted allegations to the VAU5 project, requesting that this road connect with the GR3304 road and that the duplication of the Blas Infante road be completed.
