The town of Atarfe has hosted an innovative Book Fair that brought literature to the streets, engaging over 2,000 children in a vibrant classic storybook-themed parade.

The inaugural edition of the Atarfe Book Fair has left a significant mark, transforming the streets into a scene of imagination and color. More than 2,000 schoolchildren dressed as classic storybook characters, participating in a parade that combined music and creativity, aiming to promote reading in a dynamic and engaging way.
This event was the culmination of months of dedication from educational centers, teachers, families, and students. The initiative sought to offer a different experience to bring reading closer, and the response has been overwhelmingly positive. Educators, who have used stories as a central theme throughout the academic year, highlighted the participants' enthusiasm.
A revealing aspect of the project was discovering that many schoolchildren were unfamiliar with iconic characters such as The Wizard of Oz or Puss in Boots. Far from being a problem, this became an opportunity to rediscover classics. Throughout the course, schools explored these stories in class, created costumes from recycled materials, and involved families, advocating for the idea that learning is more meaningful outside the classroom.

"We have achieved our goal: to get children out of schools to celebrate Book Day and make a story their own."

the mayor of Atarfe
The mayor of Atarfe, Yolanda Fernández, emphasized the historic nature of this first edition, which surpassed all expectations. The high participation, with over two thousand attendees, underscores the excellent coordination between all educational centers in the municipality and the City Council. The intention is to maintain and improve this level of participation in future editions.
The day did not end in the streets. As a token of appreciation for their work, the organization delivered book sets to each school's library, with titles adapted for all ages and focused on values. The councilor for Culture and Education, Jennifer García, highlighted the importance of this gesture, ensuring that the literary experience extends beyond a single day. This success demonstrates that the combination of education, culture, and collective involvement is key to sowing the seeds for the future.
