The National Geographic Institute has confirmed the registration of a 3.5 magnitude earthquake in the early hours of Friday. The epicenter was located in Jayena, Granada, and the seismic event was felt by residents in numerous towns across both Andalusian provinces.
The tremor occurred at approximately 06:06 AM, at a depth of 12 kilometers, reaching a maximum intensity of III-IV. The Andalusia Emergency Agency 112 received multiple alerts from various points in the Granada province, and even from Torrox, Málaga, although all calls confirmed the absence of any damages.
The tremor was widely perceived in many municipalities surrounding the epicenter, including the Metropolitan Area, the Alhama region, and the Granada Coast. In Málaga, the tremor was also noted in several localities, with Torrox experiencing an intensity of III.
Among the localities where it was felt with the highest intensity (III-IV) are Híjar and Santa Cruz del Comercio. With intensity III, it was perceived in Albuñuelas, Chimeneas, Cijuela, El Cerval (Almuñécar), Fuente Vaqueros, Gabia la Chica, Lentegí, Molvízar, Monte Almendros (Salobreña), Purchil, Santa Fe, and Ventas de Huelma. An extensive list of other municipalities in Granada and Málaga also reported feeling the tremor with lesser intensities.
