The main objective of this initiative is to recover and promote the tradition of wine racking (trasiega), a practice that was fundamental to the economy and culture of Villanueva del Rey from the 12th century until the mid-20th century. The Delegate for Culture, Gabriel Duque, highlighted it as a "unique and singular" event that disseminates the process of making pitarra wine, promotes local gastronomy, and generates economic activity in the Guadiato region.
Duque emphasized that the festival commemorates a traditional activity that represented a social pillar and an important source of wealth for the town. He described it as a "top-level tourist resource" that generates dynamism and economic development, with pitarra wine as its protagonist, an "intrinsic resource of our land's history".
For his part, Mayor Francisco Javier Murillo stated that the festival is "much more than a celebration"; it is a way to keep traditions alive, remember origins, and share a very special part of the town's history and identity with visitors. He stressed the work, enthusiasm, and affection behind the event, prepared with residents and those who come to discover the town in mind.
Murillo concluded that the most important aspect of the festival is "the union of a town that values its roots and wants to continue passing them on to new generations".
The Councilor for Culture of the City Council, Bárbara Rico, detailed the program: on Saturday, November 7, there will be a parade of local grape harvesters, a racking demonstration, and a pitarra wine contest, along with children's activities and live music. On Sunday, November 8, the II Regional Sevillanas Contest will be held, in addition to continuing with children's activities and musical performances.
