Following a tender process involving three companies, Sardalla Española S.A. has been chosen to carry out the construction of the new medical center in Cártama Pueblo. The project, long-awaited by residents after decades of delays and administrative disagreements, now moves towards execution.
The project tender was opened on February 23rd with a base budget of 2,559,053.43 euros and an estimated execution period of twelve months. Of the three companies that participated, Comeji S.A. had to submit additional documentation, Fonsan-Gestión y Construcción S.L. was excluded for exceeding the base budget, and Sardalla Española S.A. has been finally selected.
The new health center will have a built area of 1,374.76 square meters, allowing for the improvement and expansion of healthcare services for residents of the urban area. It will feature eight consultation rooms for medicine and nursing, two for pediatrics, and rooms for extractions, health education, and other essential services.
The building will be constructed on a plot located between Venezuela and Perú streets, enabling the move from the current temporary facilities. Patients have been receiving care at the former Local Police Headquarters since March, following the relocation due to the poor sanitary conditions of the previous premises, which suffered from odor issues, pests, and temporary closures.
The construction of a new health center has been a community demand for over 20 years, marked by obstacles related to land availability and disagreements between administrations. The original 2007 project was abandoned and later resumed in 2021 through an agreement between the Andalusian Health Service and the City Council. After several plots presented issues, the definitive plot was approved for transfer in January 2024, requiring a new project due to its topography.
The selection of the construction company now unblocks this health infrastructure. The new facilities are expected to provide a dignified, modern, and accessible space, although the start date for construction and the operational launch date have yet to be confirmed.
