The Local Police of Alhaurín de la Torre have arrested three Romanian nationals, residing in Córdoba and with numerous prior records for material theft, as alleged perpetrators of a night of cable theft in several urbanizations in the town.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday to Monday, when residents alerted authorities to tampering with a power and fiber optic pole. Upon noticing the police presence, the suspects fled, abandoning the van they allegedly used to transport the stolen material.
Hours later, one of the officers who had finished his shift returned to the area and recognized the three individuals in a nearby bar, where they were having breakfast. The officers proceeded with their arrest as they were reportedly preparing to leave the municipality.
Investigators hypothesize that the detainees were waiting for an accomplice to collect the stolen material, a common practice in such cases. The group may have been operating in the area for at least two days, with stolen material found in the Cortijo del Sol and El Lagar areas.
The recovered loot remains in police custody and will be communicated to the infrastructure's owner company. The Guardia Civil will handle matters related to the management of the cables.
This intervention occurs amidst growing concern over cable thefts, which have recently affected the high-speed Málaga-Madrid line, causing significant service delays.
