The first major weekend of August, marked by thousands of holiday journeys, has once again tested the Andalusian emergency service. 112 Andalusia coordinated 7,482 incidents between Friday, July 31, and Sunday, August 2, a key period for the summer holiday travel operation.
Although this figure represents a 20.6% decrease compared to the same period last year (when 9,427 calls were attended), the Andalusian Emergency Agency notes that the 2025 travel operation lasted one day longer.
In provinces like Granada, where travel towards the Costa Tropical, Sierra Nevada, or inland areas increases significantly at this time, summer brings a rise in interventions for accidents, health issues, and outdoor leisure activities.
Health assistance was the most frequent reason for calls, accounting for 3,202 of the total incidents coordinated by 112 over the weekend.
These were followed by calls related to public safety, with 1,537, and traffic incidents (720). There were also 431 fires, 426 animal welfare cases, 409 traffic accidents, 120 rescues and salvages, 97 anomalies in basic services, and 94 social service requests.
These figures highlight the increase in activity during the summer, a season when roads experience higher traffic volumes and visits to beaches, pools, natural spaces, and mountain areas increase.
Saturday was the busiest day for the coordination rooms, with 3,193 incidents handled by 112.
The peak of activity occurred on Sunday between 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM, when operators coordinated up to 191 emergencies in a single hour, coinciding with one of the busiest periods on roads and in leisure areas.
