The construction of the new 132 kV double-circuit overhead-underground power line in the Valle de Lecrín has sparked strong regional opposition. Environmental organizations argue that the supposed benefits of the infrastructure, justified as being of "public utility," do not outweigh the anticipated damage to the landscape, agricultural economy, and residents' quality of life.
Particular emphasis has been placed on the situation in the municipality of Padul, described as an "energy sacrifice node." Cartographic analysis reveals a concentration of multiple transport lines and evacuation routes from large photovoltaic plants within this municipal area, which, according to the complainants, constitutes a "disproportionate punishment" hindering its sustainable development.
The route of the new power line will cross the Cañada Real de Granada to Almuñécar. The platforms warn that the installation of heavy lattice towers will irreversibly alter the landscape, leading to the loss of vegetation cover and the fragmentation of fragile microhabitats.
Furthermore, the organizations deem the bird-saving beacons included in the project to be an "insufficient" measure to mitigate the risk of collision for avifauna, a critical issue for the area's biodiversity.
