This project allows visitors and pilgrims to safely access the sanctuary on foot. The first opportunity to use this new route will be during the Romería de Bajada de la Virgen de Araceli, which takes place this Sunday.
“"A solution has been provided for a section of about six kilometers, thus completing a work that the Lucena City Council carried out at the time. The road has been widened in the narrowest sections to achieve a three-meter sidewalk where possible, and we have also sustainably managed the trees."
The intervention has made the six-kilometer section accessible and safe, ensuring road traffic safety and constructing a pedestrian path that promotes equal opportunities for all users. The mayor of Lucena has expressed gratitude to the Provincial Council for their effort in realizing this project.
With this action, the access road to the Sanctuary of Nuestra Señora de Araceli, which is provincially owned, now features a sidewalk from the Ronda Sur de Lucena to the entrance of the temple. This significantly improves road safety and accessibility for the usual pedestrian traffic, benefiting both those who engage in physical exercise and pilgrims.
In addition to the repair and conditioning of the existing sidewalk, the project has included the construction of two new sections of sidewalk on the right side, thus completing the pedestrian itinerary.
