This intervention on road CO-6218, which links Lucena to the Hermitage of Nuestra Señora de Araceli, has provided one of its sides with a continuous sidewalk. This new section extends from the Ronda Sur de Lucena, where the urban area ends, to the entrance of the temple, facilitating pedestrian traffic.
The project aims to significantly improve road safety and accessibility for the many pedestrians who use this route. Thanks to this path, conditions are optimized for those engaging in physical exercise, such as walking or running, as well as for those visiting the sanctuary for religious purposes.
In addition to repairing and conditioning the existing sidewalk, the work included the construction of two new sidewalk sections on the right side, thus completing the pedestrian route. The road has been widened in the narrowest points to create a three-meter-wide sidewalk where possible, and the trees have been managed sustainably.
“"The six-kilometer section has been made accessible and safe, providing safety for road traffic, and a pedestrian path has been built for everyone, promoting equal opportunities."
A spokesperson for the provincial institution highlighted that this work offers a sustainable and natural solution for those wishing to visit the sanctuary on foot. They also noted that the path can be used and enjoyed during the Sunday descent pilgrimage. The municipal head of Lucena expressed gratitude to the Provincial Council for the effort and work invested in realizing this project.
