The Lucena City Council has announced the start of renovation works on Calle El Peso for next Tuesday, October 13. This intervention, part of the PAI “Lucena towards a new centrality,” aims to improve and transform this important connection axis between Avenida del Parque and the urban center. The first phase will focus on the section between the confluence of Calle El Agua and Calle Martín Alonso, with an estimated duration of about four months.
The Councilor for Works, Javier Pineda, detailed that from 00:00 on Tuesday, this first section will be closed to traffic, temporarily preventing access to garages. The rest of Calle El Peso will remain open for residents and commercial establishments, although parking will be prohibited due to the entry and exit of heavy machinery. Loading and unloading zones will be set up at the intersections with Calle Curados and Avenida del Parque, operating from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
The Local Police will monitor traffic and adopt measures according to the progress of the work. Alternative routes to the Calle El Peso area beyond Martín Alonso will include Calle Cabrillana, Abad Serrano, Muleros, and Catalina Marín. The section between Calle Las Torres and Calle El Agua will remain open, with a reminder that pedestrians have priority on this single platform.
Additionally, a provisional parking area near the Bodegas Víbora with a capacity for 35-40 vehicles is being set up, offering a parking alternative during the works.
The project, with a budget of 1,178,378 euros, will be executed by the company Hermanos Acedo. It is included in the Integrated Action Plan (PAI) “Lucena towards a new centrality,” co-financed by 85% with FEDER funds from the European Union and 15% with municipal funds.
