The Córdoba Provincial Council has launched an ambitious project at the Iznájar-Los Prietos Drinking Water Treatment Plant (ETAP), with an initial investment of almost 10 million euros to secure water supply for over 280,000 people in the province.

The president of the Córdoba Provincial Council visited the municipality of Iznájar to oversee the progress of works on section I of the Iznájar-Los Prietos ETAP. This action is part of the Provincial Hydraulic Infrastructure Plan 2024-2027 and involves a total investment of 9,803,173 euros.
The main objective of these works, which began in January, is the renovation of the first segment of the main high-pressure drinking water supply artery. This infrastructure is vital for the south and center of the province, serving over 280,000 inhabitants in Subbética, Campiña, and the western Guadalquivir Valley.

"The objective of this action, initiated in January, is the renovation of the first section of the main high-pressure drinking water supply artery in the south and center of the province, which serves more than 280,000 inhabitants of Subbética, Campiña, and the western Guadalquivir Valley of the province."

The intervention aims to resolve frequent incidents previously recorded along the route, which led to the loss of thousands of cubic meters of water. The work is estimated to last approximately 18 months and will double the water flow capacity.
From a technical perspective, this improvement will increase transport capacity from the current 700 liters per second to 1,200 liters per second, reaching the maximum treatment capacity of the Iznájar ETAP. This will not only meet current demand but also generate significant savings by minimizing network losses and reducing associated operational costs.
The artery being renovated, over 50 years old, was in poor condition with numerous breakdowns and ruptures. The project includes the installation of 7,850 meters of new ductile iron piping with an internal diameter of 1,000 millimeters, as well as 14 connections to existing branches and reservoirs to ensure network connectivity and operability.
This work is not an isolated project, as the plan for a second section, approximately 8,320 meters long, between Los Prietos and the provincial road CP-205, has already been approved with a budget of 12,464,532.33 euros. The total investment will exceed 22 million euros in the next biennium, ensuring continuous improvements in the provincial water infrastructure.
