The Lucena City Council is finalizing the works for the new school canteen at CEIP Antonio Machado. The project is practically complete and will allow this service to be implemented within the educational center at the beginning of the next school year, once the necessary administrative procedures with the Regional Ministry of Educational Development and Vocational Training of the Junta de Andalucía are finalized.
During a visit to the facilities, the mayor of Lucena, Aurelio Fernández, highlighted the interest in completing the work, which had been affected by various administrative and technical difficulties. After overcoming these obstacles, the project is practically finished, with only the final tasks and authorizations pending.
The Councilor for Public Works, Javier Pineda, explained that after terminating the contract with the initial awarded company, municipal services prepared a project modification to complete the intervention with the local company Colten. This second phase has been developed in recent weeks and is in its final stages, with painting work and some finishing touches remaining.
The delegate for Education, Miriam Ortiz, emphasized that the new canteen will allow students to have this service at their own school, following two school years where it was provisionally offered in a facility on Calle del Bronce. The current service caters to nearly a hundred students, while the new facilities are authorized for 110 students, with the possibility of organizing shifts, which will cover all families requesting this resource.
The project includes the adaptation of three disused classrooms for a 134-square-meter dining hall, a 51-square-meter kitchen, and a 34-square-meter storage area. Interventions have also been made to the center's facilities and restrooms to improve their functionality and accessibility. With the completion of these works, the school canteen at CEIP Antonio Machado is closer to opening, addressing a long-standing demand from families at the center to facilitate work-life balance.
