The intervention will regenerate 6,000 square meters between the Ciudad de los Niños roundabout and the Plaza Vieja, improving accessibility and creating a new open-air cultural space next to the historic bridge over the Chorrillo stream.
The project, part of the Integrated Action Plan (PAI) ‘Cabra Crece Contigo’, is financed 85% by the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), with the remaining 15% contributed by the City Council from municipal resources.
The works will cover Junquillo street, the historic bridge, the lower area next to the bridge's arch, and the connection to the Molino del Duque. A single-level platform with pedestrian priority will be created on Junquillo street, and the bridge's foundation will be reinforced to correct structural issues.
The project will include transversal bands to reduce speed, shaded rest areas, specific pedestrian crossing signage, and the provision of a city bus stop and two accessible parking spaces.
A key element will be the transformation of the lower space next to the bridge into an open-air cultural venue with capacity for approximately 200 people, featuring adapted terraces as seating and a stage facing the old bridge arch.
The Molino del Duque will be integrated via an accessible pedestrian route, with a cargo-lift elevator and a new staircase from Andovalas street to improve communication with the Historic Center. A fountain evoking the old watercourse will be created.
The project includes the reinstallation of the old public drinking fountain, the creation of a Mediterranean garden with native, low-water-consumption species, and the incorporation of permeable pavements and sustainable drainage systems.
The tender is being processed through a simplified open procedure with an execution period of 15 months. Bids can be submitted electronically until October 6th.
The PAI ‘Cabra Crece Contigo’ has a total budget of 10,543,151 euros and was among the highest-rated projects in Andalusia.
