The mayor of Cabra, Fernando Priego, accompanied by the municipal delegate for Environment, María José Romero, has presented the new containers that will allow the progressive renewal of the fleet for urban waste collection in the city.
The action includes the incorporation of more than 1,400 new receptacles and represents one of the main improvements in the street cleaning and waste collection contract awarded to Grupo Paprec. This contract, with a ten-year term, foresees the integral replacement of elements worn out by continuous use.
Priego highlighted the City Council's commitment to sustainability and recycling, noting that the improvement in service is already noticeable in Cabra thanks to the company's work and municipal coordination.
The replacement will provide more modern and functional containers, adapted to the current needs of each area, and will correct incidents detected due to continuous use and exposure in public spaces.
The number of containers will be increased in areas with overflows, and new locations will be established in scattered settlements to facilitate waste deposit and management.
The new contract will introduce a specific model for industrial estates, replacing collective points with a door-to-door collection system and individual containers for each industry, addressing continuous overflows and abandoned items.
Commercial cardboard collection will also be reinforced, providing specific containers for large generators such as supermarkets and other establishments.
Another novelty will be the incorporation of the brown container for organic waste. During October, information campaigns will be conducted to explain the correct separation of this fraction, followed by the progressive installation of the new containers.
The City Council also aims to standardize the image of the container fleet, which will have grey bodies and colored lids differentiated by waste fraction. The integral renovation of underground container platforms is planned within just over a month.
Fernando Priego stated that efforts are being made for a more modern, orderly, efficient, and accessible urban cleaning and recycling service, prepared for the future, and recalled the importance of citizen collaboration in keeping Cabra clean.
Finally, the mayor called for civility and proper use of the new containers, emphasizing the significant investment made and the need for collective care so that Cabra continues to advance as a cleaner and more sustainable municipality.
