The Local Security Council, which met on April 20, 2026, in Valdepeñas de Jaén, has coordinated this plan. The meeting was co-chaired by the sub-delegate of the Government of Spain in Jaén and the mayor of the municipality, who highlighted the importance of this measure.
The pilgrimage, held annually on May 3, involves accompanying the image of Christ to its hermitage in the Paraje de Los Chircales. This event, which attracts hundreds of people, is a moment of coexistence and popular tradition, making a robust security plan essential.
“"This is one of the most anticipated festive moments for the residents of Valdepeñas de Jaén, and the influx of hundreds of people makes it essential to articulate a special security plan to protect all attendees and ensure their well-being during the festive days."
The planned security operation will include a significant presence of Guardia Civil agents both in the urban area and along the route to the hermitage. Traffic control and public safety measures will be implemented, with special attention to preventing reckless driving, such as alcohol and drug consumption.
Additionally, patrols will cover the urban area to prevent criminal acts while a large portion of the population is at the pilgrimage site, thus ensuring the safety of both participants and those remaining in the town. Authorities emphasize that coordination among the Government Sub-delegation, the Valdepeñas de Jaén City Council, and state security forces is key to the smooth running of this highly anticipated celebration.
