The Seville Delegation of the Andalusian Basketball Federation held the Seville Basketball Gala on Thursday, September 24, at the Teatro de La Villa de Umbrete. The event brought together municipal authorities, club directors, as well as family members and friends of the Sevillian basketball community.
During the gala, Awards and Special Mentions were presented to outstanding individuals and entities for their achievements and careers. The Guillena City Council was among the honorees, receiving recognition for organizing the Provincial Babybasket Final Festival, held at the ‘Christian Hernández’ Municipal Sports Pavilion last spring.
The mayor of Guillena, Lorenzo Medina, accompanied by the Councilor for Sports, Manuel Vázquez, accepted the distinction. Medina expressed his honor in representing the City Council and highlighted the commitment to promoting basketball in youth categories and supporting the growth of the sport, extending the credit to CB Guillena, its directors, players, families, and the municipal sports schools.
In his speech, Lorenzo Medina thanked the Federation for the distinction and advocated for greater 'positive discrimination' by administrations towards sports with 'noble values but less media spotlight,' such as basketball.
The Provincial Babybasket Final Festival, which took place on April 19, was held with the collaboration of the City Council's Sports Area and the Guillena Basketball Club. Approximately 90 children between 5 and 7 years old, from 10 teams in the province, participated, with no results or standings being considered.
