The Health Department of the Guillena City Council conducted a new jornada this week focused on the surveillance, control, and larvicide treatment of mosquito larvae in areas near the Galapagar stream, La Vega, and the Huelva riverbank. These actions are ongoing as the municipality remains at a high alert level.
An adulticide treatment is scheduled for the early morning of Sunday, September 28th, along the Huelva River and the Galapagar stream. Additionally, residents are urged to maintain individual prevention and protection measures.
The confirmation of West Nile Virus (WNV) circulation in Culex pipiens mosquitoes in Guillena, detected on August 18th, prompted the Directorate General of Public Health to declare the municipality on Alert. This alert, which concluded on September 14th without evidence of new circulation, led to the implementation of extraordinary measures by the municipal Health Department.
Implemented measures include increasing the frequency of potential larval focus inspections, public information campaigns, review of vector control measures, and intensified search for new larval or adult refuges. Communication has also been established with health services for active case detection in humans, and information campaigns are being expanded to encourage citizen adoption of preventive measures.

Residents are reminded of the importance of turning off unnecessary lights and using mosquito nets to prevent mosquitoes from entering homes.
