Xerez DFC faces its last chances for permanence in the category this Sunday at Chapín, where they will host Linares. With four matchdays remaining, Popi's team is five points behind Antoniano, the team marking the safety zone, making this encounter a true final.
Linares, on the other hand, arrives at this commitment with their salvation already secured, after having gone through difficult moments in the season. This match brings back memories from last season, when both teams met at the same venue.
In the eighth round of the previous season, Linares visited the Municipal de Chapín as leaders and drew 1-1 with Xerez DFC. In that match, Hugo Díaz put the visitors ahead in the second half, and Beto equalized for the Xerecistas in the 80th minute. The game was marked by a controversial refereeing decision in the last minute, when the Extremaduran referee Jayro Muñoz García awarded a penalty on Castroviejo, which was later disallowed, resulting in a free-kick that Carri hit against the crossbar.
Among the ranks of that Linares team were two players who are now part of Xerez DFC: full-back Juanjo Mateo and center-back Mauro Lucero, who has been injured since the beginning of the current season.
