The new coach of Xerez DFC, José Pérez Veiga 'Popi', will make his debut this Sunday at the Chapín stadium in a vital match against Linares, where the team's chances of retaining their category are at stake.
Xerez DFC is five points away from safety with four matchdays remaining in the season. Despite the situation, the differences between the bottom-ranked teams are minimal, keeping the blue-and-white side's hopes alive.
Popi, who took over after Diego Caro's departure, has expressed his confidence in the squad and the team's ability to turn the situation around. He highlighted the good attitude and commitment of the players during the first days of work.
“
"I am very happy with the attitude; I have found a very committed group, which is logically upset by the situation, but I have seen them with great desire, with great spirit to move forward, and that makes us much more confident that we are going to get through this situation; we are 200% convinced."
The coach from Murcia also positively assessed the condition of the Chapín pitch, describing it as in "perfect conditions" and "very good state," which he considers a favorable factor for the development of his playing style. Furthermore, he called on the fans to attend the stadium and support the team in this crucial match.
“
"For us, it is key that Chapín pushes. We know that this has been told to them many times, to come, to be there, but it is very necessary for us that they are with us. What we are going to try to do is infect them, for the team to come out with character so that they feel identified with our team, with our idea, and with our crest."
Regarding the squad's situation, Popi reported that Berto and Ekiza will be unavailable due to injury, while Udom's participation is uncertain. However, he highlighted Mauro's recovery, who is already training with the group, and the good disposition of the youth players, some of whom could be called up for the match.
