This Wednesday, the Councillor for Tourism, Enrique Mendoza, unveiled the detailed program for these celebrations, which have become one of the most prominent historical reenactment events in the province. Preliminary activities will commence on Saturday, May 9, while the official inauguration will take place on Wednesday, May 13, with the handing over of the staff of command to Princess Himilce at 6:30 PM at the Municipal Palace.
For five days, the main streets, squares, and emblematic spaces of Linares will be transformed to recreate ancient Cástulo. The program includes parades, theatrical performances, workshops, musical acts, storytelling, processions, and reenactments of rites and ceremonies from the three featured cultures: Iberian, Roman, and Carthaginian. Key venues include the Plaza del Ayuntamiento (Town Hall Square), the Paseo de Linarejos, the Estación de Madrid, the Plaza de Toros de Santa Margarita (Santa Margarita Bullring), the Cástulo archaeological site, and the Mercado de Abastos (Market Hall).
A program full of activities for all audiences.
The event schedule is designed for all ages, highlighting the Gladiator School, the Children's Parade with participation from educational centers, the General Parade of Troops and Legions of Cástulo, and the spectacular Gran Circus Maximus. The theatrical play El Juramento de Escipión (Scipio's Oath) will also be performed, and the festivities will conclude with the emotional ceremony of extinguishing the sacred fire.
Additionally, activities will be held at the Macellum, the market located in the Paseo de Linarejos, the ‘Days of Mercury’, and a children's drawing contest. The poster for this edition was created by artist Adrián Larok, and the full program will be distributed among residents to ensure widespread awareness.
