The event, with free admission until full capacity, will take place from April 21 to 24 in afternoon sessions starting at 7:00 PM. The presentations will be given by doctors and specialists from the University Institute of Research in Iberian Archaeology of the University of Jaén.
Cástulo, a crucial Iberian city and capital of Oretania, preserves a tangible legacy in its ruins, located at the entrance of the current municipality of Linares. Among its attractions is the Mosaic of the Loves, as well as unique pieces like the Patena de Cristo en Majestad, exhibited in the Archaeological Museum of Linares.
The conference program includes various lectures. On Tuesday, April 21, the topic will be 'Chemical analysis and evolution of pigments in Iberian pottery from the southeastern Iberian Peninsula.' On Wednesday, April 22, the focus will be on 'Women in the Sanctuaries of Cástulo (4th-3rd centuries BC).' Thursday, April 23, will explore 'The representation of women in Iberian sculpture,' and the final session on Friday, April 24, will be a workshop titled 'Textile industry in the Iron Age from an experimental archaeology perspective.'
What did the women of Cástulo do?
These conferences, organized by the Centro de Estudios Linarenses and the Linares City Council in collaboration with the Cástulo Archaeological Complex and the Junta de Andalucía, aim to shed light on an aspect of ancient society that has often remained in the shadows.
