The Sierra Mágina natural park, located above the Guadalquivir valley, is one of Andalucía's best-kept secrets. Despite housing the highest peak in Jaén, Pico Mágina (2,167 meters), its beauty is often overshadowed by more popular destinations. However, a route through its villages reveals high mountain scenery and unique corners that surprise visitors.
Content creator Anastasia Viajera has highlighted the richness of this area in a video, describing it as a place with "Nasrid-era fortresses and uncrowded villages," and even a natural spot reminiscent of Bali.
The proposed route includes Jódar, notable for its imposing Nasrid castle, which currently serves as the Reception and Interpretation Center for the Sierra Mágina natural park. The fortress, with free entry, offers "beautiful views of the town." Nearby is the Templete de Santa Rita, a chapel with an Arabesque aesthetic. Jódar also hosts cultural events like the Estaka Rock festival during the summer.
Bedmar, known for its white asparagus production, is described as a "very picturesque village full of flowers." Its main natural attraction is the route of the Cuadros River, an "oasis of vegetation, waterfalls, and crystal-clear water" featuring a cascade emerging from a cave. At the start of the path lies the largest oleander grove in Europe, a natural spectacle that draws visitors in spring and summer.
The final stop is Albanchez de Mágina. Here, visitors can explore its castle, dated to the early 14th century and linked to the Order of Santiago. Other points of interest include the 19th-century Clock Tower and historic fountains like the Fuente de los siete caños and the Fuente de la seda, an old public washhouse.
