The incident took place on the afternoon of July 4th, while the athlete was participating in the Andalusian Paragliding Championship near Pegalajar. A malfunction in the main canopy forced him to deploy his emergency parachute, leading to a forced landing on a slope in Fuentemayor, an area known for its steep terrain and difficult access.
Following the impact, the victim sustained a leg injury that prevented him from moving on his own. The Guardia Civil operations center in Jaén coordinated a rescue mission involving Greim mountain specialists and an air service unit based in Granada.
The rescue team reached the victim by climbing down the slope to stabilize his injury. Once the limb was immobilized, he was moved to an extraction point and airlifted to the Traumatology Hospital of Granada.
