Early on Thursday morning, two of the brand-new lifeguard towers installed on Victoria Beach in Cádiz were discovered with evident fire damage. The incidents, which took place between six and eight in the morning, affected the tower located near Sirenas street and the one situated at the central module of the beach.
The Fire Department had to intervene to extinguish the flames. The National Police will be in charge of investigating these acts of vandalism, after receiving the relevant proceedings from the Local Police.
These facilities are part of the new features for the current beach season, which includes the installation of eight new lifeguard towers distributed across the city's four beaches: Caleta, Santa María, Victoria, and Cortadura.
“"We call for the proper care and maintenance of our beach furniture, whether it be the towers, showers, footbaths, fountains, or modules. The beaches of Cádiz, visited by thousands of users each year, are a true benchmark in the country, and we must maintain them as such."
The Deputy Mayor for Environment and Beaches, José Carlos Teruel, deeply lamented these uncivil acts, emphasizing the importance of preserving the beaches' public furniture, a national benchmark that attracts thousands of visitors annually.
