The festivity of San Marcos, patron saint of notaries and scribes, is one of the most prominent spring celebrations in the province of Jaén, alongside the Romería de la Virgen de la Cabeza. Towns such as Beas de Segura, Mancha Real, and Arroyo del Ojanco are adorned to commemorate this date, with bullfighting tradition being a central element in Beas and Arroyo, featuring bull runs and 'toros ensogados' that attract numerous visitors.
In Beas de Segura, the San Marcos Festivities, declared a Festival of Tourist Interest in Andalusia, have roots dating back to the 15th century and are among the most deeply entrenched popular bullfighting traditions in Spain. This year's program, which began on April 4, culminates this weekend with events such as the entry of yokes, bull releases, a children's night bull run with inflatable bulls, and popular open-air dances. On Saturday, April 25, a solemn religious service and procession will be held in honor of San Marcos.
Meanwhile, Mancha Real honors its patron San Marcos with a weekend full of activities. In addition to floral offerings and religious services, the program includes popular races, children's workshops, shows for the little ones, and traditional games. A Craft Market will be available at the Parque del Emigrante from April 24 to 26, offering handmade products. On Saturday, April 25, the image of San Marcos will be transferred and a floral offering will take place, followed by a tasting of cakes with chocolate and a procession.
Both municipalities offer a unique opportunity to immerse oneself in the traditions and festive atmosphere of the province of Jaén, with events designed to engage the entire community and visitors.
