The Regulatory Council of the Sierra de Segura Protected Designation of Origin will hold its prestigious Ardilla Awards in Beas de Segura on Thursday, May 21, highlighting the significant olive-growing importance of this municipality.

This annual event, crucial for the olive oil sector in the region, will take place in Beas de Segura, a municipality that stands out for its vast olive grove area, exceeding 10,000 hectares. Furthermore, it concentrates the highest number of olive mills registered in the DOP, with four entities: the cooperatives 'San Juan de la Cruz', 'San Marcos', and 'Santa Teresa de Jesús', along with the 'Oro Tradicional' olive mill.
The choice of Beas de Segura as the venue for this edition has been met with great satisfaction by the Sierra de Segura Designation of Origin, given its strategic relevance in the production of top-quality oils. The municipality embodies the essence of the DOP, combining a deep-rooted cooperative tradition with a privileged natural environment that gives a unique character to its oils.
During the ceremony, the Ardilla Quality Awards will be presented. The winners were selected last December after a rigorous tasting competition held at the Museo Antigua Fábrica de Aceites La Vicaría in Puente de Génave. This year's awarded oils are 'Agrosegura Premium' from SCA del Campo Agrosegura de La Puerta de Segura, 'Oleaí', produced by organic farmers from Beas de Segura and processed at the Oleofér mill in La Puerta de Segura, and 'Saqura', produced by SCA San Francisco de Arroyo del Ojanco and marketed by Jaencoop.
As is tradition, the event will also serve as a framework to grant awards for the highest proportion of extra virgin olive oil produced, the Ardilla Ambassador, and the Master Miller, whose recipients will be announced in the coming dates. By celebrating these awards in Beas de Segura, the DOP Sierra de Segura reaffirms its commitment to promoting the best certified extra virgin olive oils and recognizing the efforts of farmers and technicians in the region.
