The municipality of Monda, located in the Sierra de las Nieves, is set to host the 28th edition of Sopa Mondeña Day on Saturday, April 18, a festival declared of Provincial Tourist Singularity that draws numerous visitors.

The Plaza de la Constitución will be the heart of this celebration, where the traditional sopa mondeña will be prepared in a large “dornillo,” a cork oak wooden pot symbolizing the essence of this century-old recipe. Locals and visitors alike can enjoy tastings and a festive atmosphere that highlights the local identity.
Sopa mondeña, a humble dish with origins dating back to the 19th century, is made with basic ingredients such as bread, garlic, tomato, pepper, olive oil, and egg, reflecting the resourceful cuisine of rural areas. This event goes beyond gastronomy, establishing itself as an intergenerational meeting point where history, popular culture, and festive spirit converge.
As a new feature this year, the Monda Town Council, through its Municipal Library and Culture Department, has launched the ‘Vive la Sopa Mondeña 2026’ Audiovisual Contest. This initiative invites participants to capture the essence of the festival through photography or short video, from the dish's preparation to moments of community and the atmosphere in the streets.
The musical program will complement the day starting at 3:00 PM, featuring performances by Electroduendes, Orden Definitivo, and Salitre Flamenco. These acts aim to energize the afternoon and extend the festive mood in the town center, offering rhythm and diversity for all attendees.
In addition to the popular tasting, the event will offer various complementary activities that encourage exploring the surroundings, enhancing Monda's tourist appeal in the spring. This event has become one of the main attractions in the Sierra de las Nieves region, drawing an increasing number of visitors each year interested in discovering the authenticity of its traditions and the cultural heritage of the Province of Málaga.
